Visit EqualdexDallas Southern Pride, also known as DSP, is an amazing celebration of the cultural heritage and LGBTQ+ community of Dallas, Texas. This annual event has become a beloved tradition for many of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community in the area.
Set over the weekend commemorating June 19th, the festival includes socials, dance parties, the famous pool event, brunch, and tons of unity get togethers for the BIPOC LGBTQ+ communities.
It all began in 1997 when a small gathering of Black LGBTQ+ individuals came together to party and hang out with one another. As the years continued, the community demanded a more formalized celebratory weekend with a host hotel, organized parties/events, and shows to provide a safe space for this community gathering.
Over the years, the event has grown and evolved, with a wide range of activities and events taking place over the course of several days. From live music performances and dance parties to educational workshops and community discussions, there is truly something for everyone at Dallas Southern Pride.
One of the standout features of Dallas Southern Pride is its emphasis on community building and empowerment. The organizers of the event have worked hard to create a safe and inclusive space where people can come together to celebrate their shared experiences and learn from one another.
In addition to providing a fun and festive atmosphere, Dallas Southern Pride also serves as an important platform for social justice advocacy. Through various educational programs and community outreach initiatives, the organizers of the event work to raise awareness about issues facing the LGBTQ+ community, particularly those of color.
The event is a rememberance and celebration for Juneteenth (June 19th), commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people for the anniversary of General Order #3, issued by Major General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas.
Overall, Dallas Southern Pride is a shining example of the resilience and strength of the BIPOC LGBTQ+ community in Dallas. Through its commitment to inclusivity, community building, and advocacy, this event has become a beloved tradition that brings people together year after year.
