Location
Situated in the up-and-coming Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Play exudes an energetic atmosphere and vibrant ambiance, attracting a diverse crowd from all walks of life. Just east of the Downtown area, bordered by the Ohio River to the north and Interstate 65 to the west. Butchertown features a variety of historic sites, retail, dining, art galleries and entertainment.
When To Go
Play is open every day except Monday and Tuesday and hosts 2 drag performances each night Wednesday through Sunday, with an extra show on Friday and Saturday. The drag shows feature a variety of queens, and sometimes drag performers and male entertainers. The space is busiest on weekends, with Fridays and Saturdays being the most popular nights to go out dancing to. Dance floor opens at 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They do close a bit early if the club is not busy and have irregular hours for special events.
What is the Crowd & Music Like
The crowd is an eclectic mix of energetic dancers, LGBTQ+ community members, and partygoers in their 20s and 30s looking for a fun night out. The music caters to all tastes, and the DJs play everything from hip-hop, EDM, Latin, dance and pop hits. Usually busy after midnight on the weekends.
History of Play in Louisville
Play isn't new to the Louisville nightlife scene. It's been around for over a decade and has become an iconic part of the city's LGBTQ+ community. The club has always embraced diversity, and everyone is welcome regardless of their race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Over the years, the venue has expanded, incorporating new features like VIP tables, a mezzanine level, and a patio area. But despite these changes, the club has managed to maintain its original charm, providing a safe haven where everyone can be themselves, dance and have a good time.
