For more than 3 decades, this beacon of support has illuminated the LGBTQ+ community of the Mid-South Memphis area, standing as a steadfast advocate for support, connection, education, and unity. From its humble origins as a volunteer-run initiative to its current status as a thriving, multifaceted institution, OUTMemphis continues to adapt, expand, and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of its strong community. Location in Memphis

OUTMemphis has several locations, depending upon the service you are seeking. Their Community Center and Youth Emergency Center are both located between the Germantown area and West Memphis, with just a little over 1 mile between the locations. Contact OUTMemphis for more information regarding their Donation Center as well.

Community Services Offered

There are numerous services and resources provided by OUTMemphis to assist the community. Many health services are available, including HIV testing and education, support groups for LGBTQ+ individuals with mental health needs, and addiction and recovery groups. Often overseen groups will also find resources here, with many trans community services and senior support systems. There are youth community programs, and LGBTQ+ family education and resources to ensure a safe space for teens. From workshops to events, discussions to outreach programs, OUTMemphis works tirelessly to ensure that the LGBTQ+ community's voices are heard, and its rights are upheld.

Some History

Previously known as the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center, the organization was created in 1989. While they started as a grassroots effort, they have expanded to a multiple-location institution. More than 5 years ago they changed their name to OUTMemphis, with an awareness that no combination of letters would fully encompass every identity or orientation. OUTMemphis stands for a world where everyone can be unapologetically themselves.
