Renowned as one of the premier gay beaches globally, it promises sunny weekends nearly year-round, ideal for those who love the sun and sand. While a car is essential to reach this secluded spot, the journey is totally worth it!

Location

Black's Beach is located at 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive in La Jolla.

How To Get There

Go the the parking lot at the Torrey Pines Glider Port, off Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. After parking, you can embark on the scenic 20-minute hike down rustic steps, go to the right once at the bottom, then a brief 10-minute stroll north to the beach's vibrant gay section. Do note the absence of park rangers for assistance, so caution is advised.

This secluded oasis, renowned for its clothing-optional policy, invites you to immerse yourself in a private and untamed coastal retreat. Remember to pack essentials like food, drinks, and sun umbrellas, as there are no facilities on the beach.

Once you find the gayborhood on the beach, you can bask in the stunning aqua waters and the warm embrace of the Californian sun, surrounded by a community that's both welcoming and considerate. When it's time to depart, prepare for the invigorating hike back up the trail, and drink some water!

Things To Remember

  • The sea cliffs from Torrey Pines State Park southward to Black's rise up from the beach to heights of over 300 feet and have been the site of countless accidents and rescues, so not for the faint of heart.
  • The Beach Trail in the State Park, and the Glider Port Trail are the only maintained routes, so DO NOT attempt to follow any unmarked trails.
  • Beach-goers are warned to avoid setting up beach sites too close to the cliffs as landslides can occur!
