Vancouver Dyke March and Festival

The Annual Vancouver Dyke March and Festival celebrates and centers the experiences of those whose gender identity or expression intersects with their sexual orientation to further marginalize them.

History & Cause

The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society stands as a beacon of grassroots activism and community engagement. This non-profit, volunteer-driven organization is fueled by a blend of love, energy, purpose, and sustainability. With these driving forces, the society plans and produces the Annual Vancouver Dyke March and Festival, a vibrant celebration that centers and uplifts the experiences of those whose gender identity or expression intersects with their sexual orientation, further marginalizing them within society.

The society is deeply committed to ensuring that their free and all-ages events are accessible to everyone. In doing so, they not only honor their roots and history but also embrace the dynamic and evolving needs of their communities. Their events are more than just celebrations; they are a recharging force, fostering inclusivity and unity.

By honoring the past and responding to the present, the Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society continues to create a space where inclusivity and celebration go hand in hand, re-energizing and uniting the community with every event they host.

The event begins with a protest march down Vancouver's Commercial Drive which then ends into the festival event. The festival features live performances, food trucks, and a range of LGBTQ+ and queer-friendly vendors. This event is free, for all ages, and includes accessibility efforts like ASL interpretation.

Guidelines from Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society:

  • Avoid making assumptions about other people’s identity, including, but not limited to, race, sex, and gender. Let others disclose the information they choose to.
  • The individuals and communities who attend the Vancouver Dyke March are diverse. It is okay for individuals at the March to be different from one another. Do not police how people are allowed to identify themselves.
  • TERFs/SWERFs and other groups who are seeking to intimidate or spread hate are absolutely not welcome at our event.
  • The Vancouver Dyke March is a non-violent protest and we seek to ensure safety for all participants.
  • Report any concerns to a Vancouver Dyke March volunteer or organizer. During the event, we will respond to these issues on a case by case basis, doing our best to ensure all participants’ safety.
