Marriage equality in Austria was signed into law here in 2019, so it is fairly new, but Vienna is trying to become more progressive. Vienna Pride happens throughout June, and the rainbow parade route follows the Ringstraße. The parade is a political demonstration—channel Vienna’s bold creative spirit and make a banner or t-shirt!—as well as a grand party. If the clubbing scene gets you down, or if you’re looking to make friends, Vienna’s Big Gay Picnic has got you covered! These free picnics happen every Sunday in July and August on Donauinsel (Danube Island), a venue accessible by subway and boasting plenty of recreation spaces and nude beaches ('FKK' are clothing-free zones).
