Visit EqualdexGuadalajara Pride, also known as Marcha de la Diversidad Sexual de Guadalajara, is an annual celebration of the fabulous LGBTQ+ community in Guadalajara, Mexico. The event brings together people from all over the city to celebrate diversity, love winning, and of course acceptance by society.
Guadalajara Pride has grown to become one of the largest and most popular pride events in all of Mexico. The event is held in the beginning of June, which is Pride Month, and it typically lasts for several days.
Please note that Guadalajara hosts two separate Pride celebrations: one in early June featuring the largest parade and an energetic after-party, and another taking place the following week. Additional events are held throughout both weekends, including art exhibitions, film screenings, and human rights conferences, so get ready to celebrate and party!
The Marcha del Orgullo GDL or Pride March will be starting at the Minerva roundabout, around 2 pm on June 7. The parade will then begin at 3 pm with a walk around the roundabout, then to López Mateos Avenue continuing along Hidalgo Avenue to finish in Liberation Square. There is no festival after, just the kick off for Pride.
Guadalajara Pride will take place on Saturday, June 14, starting at 2 pm at La Minerva, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The march officially begins at 3 pm, departing from the Minerva roundabout, continuing down López Mateos, and flowing through Hidalgo Avenue to arrive at Plaza Liberación—where the celebration continues with the official after-party full of music, energy, and LGBTQ+ joy.
The history of Guadalajara Pride is rooted in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights in Mexico. In the early 1970s, a group of gay activists formed the Frente de Liberación Homosexual de México (Homosexual Liberation Front of Mexico) to fight for their rights. The group organized several protests and demonstrations, including the first-ever pride march in Mexico City in 1978.
Since then, the LGBTQ+ community in Mexico has made significant progress, and Guadalajara Pride is a testament to that progress. The event is a celebration of the community's achievements and a reminder that there is still work to be done to achieve full equality.
Pride weekend Guadalajara typically starts with an extremely bright and colorful parade that winds its way through the downtown city streets. The parade is a very lively affair, with multi-colored floats and Mexican beats to get those hip swaying! The streets are lined with spectators, many of whom come out to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
And, hold on to your fabulous hats because the party doesn't stop after the parade! There's a whole lineup of events, from banging parties to jam-packed concerts and cultural events, all geared up to show off the rainbow-filled wonderland that is the LGBTQ+ community in Guadalajara.
