History

The history of Sun City Pride dates back to 2007, when a group of LGBTQ+ advocates in El Paso came together to organize the first pride festival in the city. At that time, the LGBTQ+ community in El Paso was relatively small, and the festival was a small, grassroots event.

Over the years, however, Sun City Pride has grown into one of the largest and most popular LGBTQ+ events in the region. Today, it attracts thousands of people from across the state of Texas and surrounding states, who come together to celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

The Pride Weekend El Paso festival has a wide range of events and activities that cater to all ages and interests. There are live performances by local and national musicians, dance parties, drag shows, a parade, and much more for pride-goers.

One of the highlights of the festival is the pride parade. The parade features colorful floats, marchers, and dancers, all decked out in rainbow colors and other symbols of LGBTQ+ pride. The parade winds through the streets of downtown El Paso, drawing cheers and support from onlookers along the way.

In recent years, the festival has taken on added significance in the wake of the 2019 mass shooting at a local Walmart, which left 23 people dead, many of them Hispanic.
