Visit EqualdexThe Bairro Alto District is the center of Lisbon nightlife and hosts its fair share of queer-friendly spots. But for the real scene, get to Principe Real's stretch of bars and clubs—including some remarkably popular bear bars. A night out here kicks off with a late dinner (a multi-course, many-hour affair), followed by a bar entrance around midnight, and finally seeing dance floors heat up post 2 am. Don’t worry if things start slow…by the end of the night, most of the city usually meets in the streets for a little outdoor imbibing.
During the day, and especially during the long summers, take your pick of beaches. Beach 19, with its privacy promoting sand dunes, is particularly popular with the gay community. Museum and architecture buffs also have it made, with close proximity to the Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, and São Jorge Castle.
Lisbon often gets forgotten in Euro adventures…but once you make your way to this relatively unknown LGBTQ+ destination, we have a feeling it’s a place you’ll always remember.
