Visit EqualdexEdmonton Pride is held annually in Edmonton, "Canada's Festival City," organized by the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, a non-profit organization. The history of pride in Edmonton dates back to 1980 when the first pride march was held, and it has been growing in popularity and visibility ever since, attracting people from all over the province, around Canada and the world.
The festivities will be occurring throughout the week with the events concentrated around downtown Edmonton and the pride festival events will be held at Churchill Square. There will be theme parties, special LGBTQ+ events, social gatherings and happenings, plus lots of rainbow love!
The pride parade will kick start on Saturday of the pride festival and will go through the downtown area of Edmonton ending at Churchill Square. After the parade there will be lots of activities, performances, live music and celebrations at Churchill Square and the surrounding area. Get your best rainbow gear on and be ready to meet some fellow LGBTQ+ friends!
The history of the LGBTQ+ community in Edmonton is diverse and varied. In the early days, LGBTQ+ people faced discrimination, harassment, and violence, but they fought back and formed organizations to support each other and advocate for their rights. Today, pride in Edmonton is a vibrant, colorful, and inclusive event, being one of the few prides that features Two-spirit events.
The pride parade, which takes place in the heart of downtown Edmonton, is the highlight of the celebrations. Thousands of people line the streets, wave rainbow flags and cheer for the marchers. The parade features floats and walking groups from a wide range of organizations and businesses, all of whom come together to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
